Apple Continues to Innovate with 2nd Generation Mixed Reality Headset
Apple’s much anticipated Mixed Reality headset is currently the talk of the town, with tech enthusiasts eagerly awaiting its release at WWDC in June this year. However, a most recent update from Ming-Chi Kuo, an analyst who specializes in the Apple industry, indicates that work on a second-generation headset has begun and it will have two models.
According to Kuo, Apple’s second-generation Mixed Reality headset will have two models, a high-end and a low-end variant. The high-end model will be developed and produced by LuxshareICT, while Foxconn will handle the low-end version. Both models are expected to launch in 2025.
Kuo in the report:
Apple’s second-generation AR/MR headset has two high-end and low-end models. The high-end and low-end will be developed and produced by LuxshareICT and Foxconn, respectively. The current launch schedule for both models will likely be in 2025.
Adding to this update, Nikkei Asia has recently stated that Foxconn is presently working on an inexpensive second generation of the headset. The company’s focus is on automating mass production and improving production performance to help Apple lower overall costs.
The first-generation MR headset from Apple is expected to be extremely expensive, with the price potentially exceeding $3,000, according to recent reports. It will feature dual 4k micro-oled displays, 15 cameras inside and outside the device, ultra-high resolution passthrough cameras, and many processors. These features have their cost, so Apple aims to create more affordable options in recent years.
