One of the best PCVR games, Vertigo 2, receives its first and final update, introducing new characters, “mutators,” and Level Editor.
Vertigo 2, a single-player adventure designed specifically for VR, has been available since March. As an exclusive PCVR title, the game has received acclaim for its complex mechanics, diverse range of guns, expansive world with extensive levels, and a long story campaign. Given its single-player focus, some players might have found it less replayable once they completed the campaign, even with the addition of a new game plus mode. This is where the “Bottomless update” aims to make a difference.
The Bottomless update introduces numerous gameplay enhancements, including “mutators” that serve as modifiers for the game. You’ll have a variety of options to choose from, as showcased in the trailer video below. Some of these mutators include the enemy randomizer, which, as the name implies, shuffles enemy placements in the game, reactor roulette, which randomizes your weapon, god mode, infinite ammo, and big head mode, among others.
The next big change is the addition of new playable characters: Brian, Officer 13, and Nani. These characters are familiar faces encountered during the campaign, and each of them brings unique abilities that alter the gameplay experience. For example, Brian makes ammo and health items collectible and enhances your movement speed, changing the game into a Boomer Shooter. Officer 13 provides a special HUD with extra information like a minimap while playing as Nani grants you magical powers and the ability to levitate.
One of the most significant and intriguing changes, which undoubtedly enhances the game’s replay value, is the updated level editor. Much like Half-Life: Alyx, players can now create their own levels and share them within the community. You can work with the Level Editor in VR, allowing you to instantly test and modify your creations without needing to remove your headset. With a growing selection of custom levels available and the promise of more to come in the future, there’s a wealth of content to explore.
The bottomless update is scheduled for release on November 10, and it will be available as a free download. Additionally, Vertigo 2 has plans to launch on PSVR2. However, the game’s creator has announced that the release on this platform has been delayed indefinitely.
